For standard 3-tab or architectural asphalt shingles, it usually takes 3 bundles to cover one square (100 sq ft).
Understanding Roof Pitch
The "pitch" is the slope of your roof, expressed as a ratio of rise over run. A "6/12" pitch means the roof rises 6 inches for every 12 inches of horizontal run. The steeper the pitch, the greater the actual surface area of the roof compared to the flat footprint of the house.
